Watteredge Portable Switches are available in our patented matrix design, Slim Line and custom configurations. The Portable Shorting (Jumper) Switches utilize vacuum contact modules and incorporate solid state control logic for programmed switch opening and closing. 30kA through 250kA designs are available.
The Matrix Shorting Switch utilizes a number of current-carrying elements, each containing a vacuum contact module and a pneumatic actuator. The switch elements are arranged in a patented matrix configuration, which minimizes the stored inductive energy during switch opening. For the opening sequence, the conductor elements open first, followed by the designated sacrificial positions. The resistor elements are the last to open, dissipating the inductive energy after opening the switch conductor elements. This entire sequence occurs in less than 0.5 seconds. The designated conductor sacrificial elements require periodic maintenance after 250 operations at full load.
Each element is actuated by an individual valve-in-head pneumatic cylinder. The elements are controlled by a solid-state logic sequencer which provides the delays for the interruption elements.
