Company History and Details
Watteredge was originally founded in 1954 by Henry Watterson in Rocky River, OH as the Watteredge Company. Growth through the 50s and 60s necessitated having to relocate to our current location at Avon Lake, OH just 1 mile South of Lake Erie. In 1970, Watteredge was acquired by Erico Products and went through several expansions of the manufacturing facility and the acquisition of the Uniflex Cable Division from Sargent Industries and subsequently rebranding as Watteredge-Uniflex. In 1983, Watteredge-Uniflex was divested by Erico and established as a private company under the ownership of the Langhenry family. Further manufacturing expansions occurred throughout the 80s and 90s resulting in the current facility size of 75,000 square feet. Additional acquisitions were made from 2000 to 2011 of the switch division of Imaging and Sensing Technology (a former Westinghouse division), Cellar Services and Electo-Max. These acquisitions triggered another rebranding, back to our origins as Watteredge LLC.
In May 2012, Coleman Cable, Inc. acquired Watteredge. Two years later in February 2014, Southwire Company, a leading North American wire/cable manufacturer, acquired Coleman Cable, with Watteredge becoming part of Southwire’s SCR Technologies Division. After six years under Southwire ownership, Southwire divests Watteredge to Nesco, Inc in December of 2020.
Over our history, the company has invested in modernization and expansion projects to better serve our customer base and their evolving power and conduction needs. Major milestones such as ERP implementation in 1996, ISO9001 certification since 1999 and ongoing capital investments in modern fabrication, machining and test equipment demonstrates the commitment to safety, quality and efficiency demanded by our customers and all of our stake-holders.
